Big Ideas, Bigger Impact
Driven by curiosity, we meet weekly to discuss culture and identity with the anticipation of creating something meaningful together. This page hosts weekly snippets of us in action. The theme of Week 1 was “Video Portraits, Personhood and the Racial Self on Moving Image.” Documented in black and white, students used tripods to record their environment for our class film. They’ll continue recording vignettes of their lives over the next four weeks. Week 2 has been all about memories we’ve experienced + the ones we’ve only imagined, — “Family and the Mixed Media Photo Collage.” Students have been creating collages that they feel represents themselves and Black American youth culture. Each collage incorporates images they’ve taken of themselves or images of their family. Here we’re acknowledging heritage through a subjective lens. Week 3 begins on June 15; check back for an update on our next conversation.
